Alliance for Future Generations

Founded in March 2018, Alliance for Future Generations (AFG) has grown to become Fiji’s largest collective of youth networks fighting for a just and more sustainable future for all. Currently, AFG has built a generation-wide movement of young people with more than 500 members from a diverse background. The organisation advances social-economic and environmental challenges from an intersectional, human-rights approach. Its four thematic working groups focus on climate justice, oceans, health, and gender & human rights.

Pacific Islands Climate Action Network

The Pacific Islands Climate Action Network (PICAN) connects civil organizations that combat climate change, serving as the Pacific regional node for the global Climate Action Network (CAN-International). The organization amplifies the voices of Pacific Island governments on issues relating to climate justice and environmental integrity at an international level. It advocates for national priorities and strengthens local activist groups, while approaching challenges specific to the region.  PICAN has members in all Pacific countries, and national nodes in locations like Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, and Tuvalu.

CARE Climate Justice Center

CARE Climate Justice Center is an NGO affiliate of CARE organization with the overarching objective to empower poor and marginalized people, particularly women and girls, to take action on the climate crisis and build knowledge for global change. CARE’s approach to adaptation focuses on undertaking targeted community-based adaptation projects and integrating climate change adaptation into its work in climate-sensitive sectors. The organization’s work in Fiji began in 1996 and works with the local partner organization, Live & Learn to support communities with improved climate-related disaster risk reduction practices and provide immediate humanitarian assistance. Adaptation is critical to protecting millions of poor and marginalized people who are at risk of losing their lives and livelihoods due to climate change.

NatureFiji-MareqetiViti

NatureFiji-MareqetiViti is Fiji’s only domestic NGO operating to preserve and sustainably manage the island’s unique natural heritage. The organization specifically focuses on improving biodiversity and habitat conservation through collaborative research and education projects. In addition, NatureFiji-MareqetiViti seeks to bring awareness to the sustainable use of Fiji’s natural resources by growing an active membership to assist in various community initiatives. Such projects include protecting threatened species and safeguarding island ecosystems.

Mamanuca Environment Society

Mamanuca Environment Society is non-profit, non-governmental organization that was established in 2001. In conjunction with local communities, tourism operators, government and non–government organizations, their main mission is environmentally sustainable development. They are responsible for a Coastal Management Plan, and Making Tourism More Sustainable: A Guide for Policymakers. Reef Checks, Waste Management Projects, and Water Quality Programs are all current activities Mamanuca is engaged in, all while promoting public awareness.

Project Survival Pacific

Project Survival Pacific is a youth environmental organization based in Fiji whose efforts are targeted to ensure the survival of the Pacific island people from the effects of climate change. The NGO is working to accomplish this goal by promoting sustainable development in Fiji and throughout the Pacific. To promote sustainable development in the face of climate change, PSP lobbies, raises awareness, tours, and plans events to educate about these issues. They strive for “a future in which sustained global cooperation safeguards our planet from the perils of climate change, ensuring the survival and prosperity of the nations, peoples and cultures of the Pacific islands” and promote the creation of a global protection agreement for the Pacific islands in regard to climate change’s consequences.
