Sahabat Alam Malaysia – Friends of the Earth Malaysia (SAM) was founded in 1997 and became a member of Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) in 1983. SAM’s mission is to establish environmental and social justice in development initiatives, rehabilitate and restore depleted natural resources, empower community participation in decision-making, and promote awareness of national and global environmental justice issues. Their widespread initiatives include grassroots campaigns, educational programs, sustainable development projects, national & international conferences, research, and publications.

Center for Environment, Technology, and Development (CETDEM)

The Center for Environment, Technology and Development (CETDEM) was founded in 1985 to rehabilitate the environment through sustainable development and technology research, education, and consultancy. Their focus areas include climate change, sustainable energy, organic farming, sustainable transport, and sustainable development initiatives. CETDEM helps facilitate successful sustainable development through education and public participation such as hosting organic farming classes for aspiring organic farmers.

Water Watch Penang

Water Watch Penang (WWP) is a non-profit organization founded on November 1997 as part of the Sustainable Penang Initiative under the auspices of the Socio-economic & Environmental Research Institute (SERI) of Penang. The organization’s mission is to educate and transform the public into a water savvy and climate resilient society, while its vision is to create a water saving society in Malaysia. Both goals revolve around 6 main Sustainable Development Goals, which are Quality Education, Clean Water & Sanitation, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption & Production, Climate Action, and establishing Partnerships for the Goal. WWP promotes water demand management (WDM) to ensure that water resources are not depleted but remain sustainable. Via WDM, the amount of water saved nationally is significant and WDM can lead to saving mega-water projects for future generations.

Malaysian Climate Change Group (MCCG)

Malaysian Climate Change Organization came together when the Center for Environment Technology and Development Malaysia (CETDEM) with the Environmental Protection Society of Malaysia (EPSM) and the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) formed an alliance, It is the only non-governmental body in Malaysia that actively addresses climate change issues and consists of a network of people and resources that fervently works to mobilize as many sectors of Malaysian society as possible to address the problems of climate.

Malaysian Nature Society

Established in 1940, Malaysian Nature Society is the oldest membership-based NGO  with more than 10 branches across Malaysia and over 16,000 members across the world. The vision of MNS: For Malaysia’s natural heritage and rich biological diversity to be effectively protected, managed and conserved for the benefit and appreciation of all Malaysians. Main activities of MNS are habitat management, environmental education, publications and awareness events.

Global Environment Centre

Global Environment Centre (GEC) addresses key environmental issues and focuses on a sustainable future for the generations to come. Their programs range from forest and biodiversity, peatlands, river care and outreach/partnerships with individuals, communities, other organisations, in order to achieve environmental sustainability.

GEC has undertaken more than 150 projects successfully in more than 15 countries that cover environmental issues of global significance with strong focuses on river basin, wetlands, biodiversity and climate change. They are formally recognized by Malaysian Government and ASEAN for its pioneering work in mangrove, peat swamp forest, river and coastal management and community engagement.

Green Growth Asia Foundation

With the belief that traditional economic models are no longer suitable for the current climate change and environmental degradation, the Green Growth Asia Foundation uses a stakeholder based approach to create a more sustainable economy. This approach encourages local communities and cities across the world to utilize more sustainable economic practices through education, research, and technology. The Green Asia Foundation also has a strategic focus on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and promotes the idea that social change is necessary in the fight against climate change. This nonprofit understands and fosters the importance of addressing poverty, inclusivity, and environmental issues together. Through this mindset, the Green Asia Foundation envisions a greener future.
