Ecology and Conservation Organization of Afghanistan (ECOA)

The Ecology and Conservation Organization of Afghanistan, or ECOA, was founded in 2010 with the goals of alleviating poverty and preserving the environment in Afghanistan. ECOA’s projects emphasize community participation; they see themselves as project facilitators, not project enforcers. Some of their projects aim to reduce pollution and unnecessary waste, conserve biodiversity, increase and improve renewable natural resource use, and secure sustainable livelihoods. Many of their projects have a specific focus on women, especially in regards to that last goal.
