Action for Rural Development and Environment (ADRA)

Action for Rural Development and Environment (ADRA) is an Angolan-based NGO that is committed to developing a democratic state that promotes socially, economically and environmentally equitable forms of development. They value the traditions of rural communities and aim to engage with civil society organizations to ensure that all are included and empowered through the process of development. They have various projects that address resilience, gender, public policy monitoring, clean water and environmental education. A number of their projects, such as the PAJUDEL project, finance small initiatives with the goal of inspiring youth entrepreneurship and stimulating self-employment.

Juventude Ecológica Angolana (JEA)

Juventude Ecológica Angolana (JEA) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1991 in Luanda, Angola. For over 30 years this organization has been dedicated to preserving and protecting the unique natural environment of Angola. With the goal of raising awareness of the climate crisis, JEA hosts various environmentally focused events and campaigns. They also publish a wealth of information on their Facebook page for easy access for those looking to learn more about sustainability and climate change.

Kissama Foundation

The Kissama Foundation is a non-governmental organization founded in 1996 in Angola to promote the protection, conservation, management, study, research and balance of the Angolan fauna and flora. In 2007, the organization was declared a Public Utility Institution for its significant contribution to environmentalism and biodiversity conservation in Angola and South Africa. The Kissama Foundation is best known for their Noah’s Ark Project, wherein the organization was fighting for the reintroduction of native species and established a special conservation area for this purpose. Recently, their Stories to Preserve Project has found great success in encouraging environmental education for young people and children across Angola. In 2019, a new research and education project was unveiled to determine the geographical distribution zones of forest elephants, with emphasis on the Bengo and Cuanza-Norte regions of Angola.
