Fashion Takes Action

Fashion Takes Action is Canada’s first non-profit fashion industry organization focused on sustainability. They work with industry and consumers, with the goal to shift behavior toward more positive social and environmental impacts. Since 2007, Fashion Takes Action has worked with more than 800 apparel businesses and entrepreneurs, participated in over 150 events, collaborated with academics, NGOs and various industry stakeholders, and received tens of millions of media impressions.

Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA)

The Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) is a specialty legal clinic within the Ontario-wide network of clinics funded by Legal Aid Ontario. They seek to offer free legal services to those who would otherwise not be able to afford it. They also provide education to teach upcoming environmental lawyers about work in the field. Overall, CELA’s focus is to sustain a healthy public and environment by legally pursuing positive progress in the realm of environmental policy. They specifically focus on addressing environmental issues that disproportionately affect less fortunate communities.

Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN)

The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) is an independent, non-partisan organisation. Their mission is to achieve the implementation of progressive, sustainable policy by encouraging public participation. One way RCEN does this is by providing environmental NGOs (ENGOs) with the tools they need to engage individuals in the public and other national and international organizations. By allowing for Canadian ENGOs to come together as a network in workshops and caucuses, they are able to share best practices and grow as a collective. As a network, RCEN follows the sustainable development goals set out by the UN.

Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication (EECOM)

The Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication (EECOM) is Canada’s only national bilingual charitable network for environmental learning (EL). EECOM works to ensure the environmental literacy of Canadian citizens through EL so as to work towards a healthy, sustainable future for all. They prioritize finding representation from every corner of society by looking for leaders in different regions, disciplines, cultures, and sectors. Their success in this regard is evident, as can be seen in their network being composed of activists, experts, youth, and teachers alike.

Climate Action Network Canada

CAN Canada works to support and encourage solutions that protect the environment. Through policy development, increased engagement, and provided services, CAN works to help combat environmental harm through advancing practical policies and front-line solutions to manage carbon pollution as well as other impacts from climate change to communities and the environment.

Cyclo Nord-Sud

Cyclo Nord-Sud (CNS) is a nonprofit based in Quebec that recycles and repairs unused bikes. CNS works with local communities to encourage daily bicycle use, provide free bike repairs at public parks, and host community bike workshops about cycling activities and bike mechanics. The organization has sent over 60,000 bikes to countries in Latin America and Africa struggling with transportation, which has allowed for job creation, less school dropouts, and even tool making from bicycle parts.

David Suzuki Foundation is a national non-profit organization that works to conserve and protect the natural environment. Through collaboration, evidence-based research, and policy analysis, the foundation also works to create a more sustainable Canada. Their vision is that we all act every day on the understanding that we are one with nature.

Ducks Unlimited

Ducks Unlimited Canada is one of the largest and longest-standing conservation organizations in North America. Its vision is to ensure healthy wetlands and clean water for waterfowl, wildlife and people. DUC is proud to lead a growing movement that’s conserving and restoring millions of acres of wetlands and other natural areas that represent some of the most important and at-risk habitat on the planet. Active in every province and territory, DUC’s team of conservation experts collaborates with government, industry, Indigenous Peoples, other nonprofit organizations and landowners to conserve wetlands that are critical to waterfowl, wildlife and the environment.

Ecojustice

Ecojustice is Canada’s largest environmental law charity, where they advocate for stronger and more effective laws that protect both the environment and the people. With support from a dedicated community and powerful lawyers, they protect at-risk species, halt fossil fuel projects, and keep toxic chemicals out of the air and water. Over the years, Ecojustice has secured many legal victories that protect the local wildlife and their habitats and strengthen environmental policies. The work they do holds polluters accountable from coast to coast.

Environmental Defence

Environmental Defence is a leading Canadian advocacy organization that works with the government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. Over the years, Environmental Defence had major wins including: protection of the Greenbelt, banning of the toxic chemical BPA in baby bottles, founding of the Green Energy Act Alliance and their most recent effort to get rid of the toxic micro beads polluting Canada’s lakes.

Founded in 1991, Evergreen Canada is an environmental non-profit dedicated to transforming urban cities into greener living spaces through innovation and sustainable action across different sectors. The organization seeks to actively engage citizens and communities in addressing pertinent issues such as climate change, housing affordability, and access to nature and public spaces in cities. Through initiatives that promote environmental action in schools and urban agriculture strategies, Evergreen Canada assists various Canadian municipalities to adopt more sustainable policies within its communities.

Ontario Nature

In 1931, the charity Ontario Nature (originally called the Federation of Ontarian Naturalists) was established to focus on conservation of biodiversity and their ecosystems. The organization accomplishes this through education and public engagement. They have created projects such as the Nature Guardians Youth program, the Endangered Species program, the Boreal program, and more. Their vision is to see nature inspire and sustain us for generations to come.

Sierra Club Canada Foundation

The Sierra Club Canada Foundation focuses on restoring and protecting Canada’s ecosystem. Using their philosophy, “think globally, act locally”, they actively fight for environmental and social justice and promote the conservation of relevant resources. This NGO also protects endangered species, all while encouraging the community to enjoy nature! With a variety of different projects such as their “All Hands on Deck” Webinar Series, Sierra Club Canada Foundation discusses both diversity and social and environmental challenges that are occuring in the present day. Climate change, grassroots action, health and wellbeing, sustainability, and wildlife and natural spaces are all topics that are vital to their beliefs and essential when looking at protecting Canada’s ecosystem.

SierraClub

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC)

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is a unifying force for nature. The private, non-profit organization delivers permanent and sizeable conservation, working with governments, foundations, Indigenous communities, corporations and individuals across the country. Through collaboration NCC has become Canada’s leading national land conservation organization. Since 1962 NCC and its partners have made an impact across 15 million hectares. Over the next few years NCC will accelerate its work to confront biodiversity loss and climate change, because when nature thrives, people thrive.

Tree Canada

Tree Canada is the only NGO in Canada dedicated to planting and nurturing trees in both rural and urban areas. Tree Canada has supported the greening of more than 700 schoolyards and planted more than 10,000 edible fruit and nut trees and shrubs. Tree Canada is interested in both restoring the natural Canadian biome as well as helping fight urban food insecurity via the planting of trees. Among many amazing initiatives, Tree Canada has launched the Greening communities project which offers funding and technical support to help start, upgrade, or achieve your greening goals through tree and shrub planting.
