Kathmandu Environmental Education Project

Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Nepal. Founded in memory of trekker Tracey Taylor Young, KEEP aims to educate trekking professionals on eco and sustainable approaches to traveling in the fragile Himalayan landscapes. This results in both the Nepali workforce and their trekking clients reducing the negative impact of tourism and at the same time emphasizing the importance of conserving the country’s ecosystem. On its mission to promote sustainable tourism, KEEP provides tourism professionals with a wide range of training related to environmental issues, conservation, mountain safety, and more. KEEP recognizes that we all use the environment in one form or another and as such it runs an environmental awareness program that spreads awareness about protecting the Himalayan ecosystems, cleaning up areas devastated by human activities, and teaching local communities about the importance of maintaining biodiversity.
