Founded in 1991, The Foundation For Sustainable Development Mission works to protect nature and biodiversity through enhancing community based projects and leading campaigns that connect people from various disciplines. The organization’s areas of focus include the climate crisis, food sovereignty, education, smog reduction, biodiversity and development cooperation. At the core of the organizational mission is cooperation, which is reflected in their partnerships with other green NGOs in Poland and other countries such as Georgia, Germany and Portugal. The organization also champions many projects, such as educating and supporting the young generation of activists through workshops, creating sustainability guides for consumers, and providing the space and expertise for innovative initiatives such as FoodSHIFT2030 and Przyjaciele Drzew.

Instytut na rzecz Ekorozwoju (Institute for Sustainable Development Foundation)

Founded 1990, The Institute for Sustainable Development Foundation is a non-governmental think tank that promotes and implements the principles of sustainable development in Poland. The mission of the organization is to build positive relations between socioeconomic development and environmental protection as well as acting with interests of future generations in mind. The organization’s strategic focus areas include energy policy, environmental lobbying, transportation, cities, rural areas, environmental protection, competitiveness, the project Natura 2000 and funds from the European Union.

Polski Alarm Smogowy

When Polski Alarm Smogowy was founded in 2015, the issue of smog and the low air quality in Polish cities was rarely discussed in the media. Now, as the organization has grown into 50 grassroots chapters across the country, several regulations have been introduced to combat pollution, and awareness has increased significantly. The mission of the Polski Alarm Smogowy is to improve the air quality in the country, and the organization focuses on raising awareness and introducing regulatory changes in coal quality standards, smoke control areas, financial instruments for boiler replacement and emission standards for solid fuel boilers. Alongside extensive policy efforts, the initiative also addresses education, monitors air quality, and leads public campaigns.

ClientEarth Prawnicy dla Ziemi

ClientEarth is an environmental law charity with over 200 lawyers and policy experts active in over 50 different countries. The mission of the organization is to create systemic change that protects the environment and the most vulnerable communities in society. The Polish chapter of the charity targets issues in greenwashing, wild habitat protection, clean air, and a rapid divestment from fossil fuels. The organization also investigates the actions of the government, crafts complaints to the institutions of the EU, creates proposals for green legal changes, and publishes reports that highlight the most urgent climate challenges.

Nauka o Klimacie (Climate Science)

Nauka o Klimacie is an initiative started by a group of Polish journalists and scientists which combats climate change misinformation by providing accessible and trustworthy data about the environment. The organization offers knowledge about cutting-edge research, gives insight into climate change processes and their causes, and provides citizens with solutions and actionable information. At the heart of the initiative is the creation of educational  lectures, webinars, articles, and op-eds that contribute to raising awareness and educating the Polish public about the climate.

Alliance of Associations Polish Green Network (Polish Green Network – PGN)

Alliance of Associations Polish Green Network (Polish Green Network – PGN) is a national alliance of the 10 strongest environmental and sustainable development associations and foundations based in the largest cities of Poland. PGN is a leading sustainable development network in Poland, making it one of the few NGOs in Poland able to work across all regions of the country. This organization mainly focuses on activities such as advocating for social and environmental justice within sustainable development, establishing social control mechanisms over public funds, increasing consumers impact on multinational corporations, building public support in the Global South countries and Eastern Europe for development and providing development assistance.

ProVeg Polska

ProVeg Polska is the Polish chapter of ProVeg International, a food awareness organization working to reduce the global consumption of animals by 50% by 2040. Their mission to transform the global food system is guided by the ‘5 Pros’ – pro Environment, Health, Justice, Animal and Taste. The organization collaborates effectively with governments, companies and public institutions to promote attractive animal-free foods to consumers. To create a more plant-based society and economy, ProVeg leads awareness campaigns, engages in national and international political outreach, works with investors, and provides resources for businesses interested in becoming less reliant on animal agriculture. One of the many resources offered by the organization is the 30-day Veggie Challenge that has had more than 480,000 participants globally.

Klub Gaja

Klub Gaja is an environmental organization that works towards fostering a new generation of ecologically-minded individuals. Their projects inspire and encourage collaboration between different groups of people to build a civil society that protects the environment. The organization’s areas of focus include tree and river conservation, enhancing biodiversity, animal welfare and rights, environmental education and community building. Since 1988, they have planted more than 940,000 trees and recruited over 196,000 people in river conservation projects, all while being at the forefront of various education projects for kids and adults in local communities. Klub Gaja also organizes art workshops and events such as ‘Festiwal Ekodzieło’, which utilizes art to raise awareness and encourage creative solutions to climate change.

Koalicja Klimatyczna (Polish Climate Coalition)

The Climate Coalition is an agreement of 24 non-governmental organizations that work to tackle climate change. The coalition partners are Poland organizations with a variety of specialties from research to education. The mission of the Climate Coalition is to mitigate human-made climate change, through joint-action, for the benefit of people and the environment. They monitor legislative work at a national and European level, through the organization of conferences and workshops for various recipients – business representatives, officials, deputies, journalists, and educational activities directed at children and youth. The goal is to encourage these groups about the urgency to reduce negative impact on the environment and develop a sustainable, energy-efficient economy.

Instytut Zielonej Gospodarki (Green Economy Institute)
